University of Santo Tomas’ depensa trumped National University’s championship-winning defense as the Growling Tigers dethroned Season 77 champion Bulldogs, 64-55, in their UAAP Season 78 Final Four match on Sunday November 22, at the Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.

The España based-squad’s defense limited the Bulldogs to a mere 32 points in the first three quarters, overall leaving them with a low 27.27% field goal percentage in 18-of-66 shooting.

Louie Vigil matched his career-high 19 points to lead the Growling Tigers return to the finals. Kevin Ferrer and Jamil Sheriff added 11 and 10 respectively.

Pao Javelona led NU’s short resurgence with 17 points.

UST will face the FEU Tamaraws in the Finals for the first time since 1979 on Wednesday November 25, at the Mall of  Asia Arena in  Pasay.
