Roger Ray Pogoy was a bench warmer of the squad that was part of Far Eastern University’s (FEU) last ill-fated run to the finals in 2011 where he played second-fiddle to the likes of JR Cawaling, Aldrech Ramos, and Ryan Roose Garcia.
Fast forward to this season: Pogoy is seen as one of the team’s elder statesmen that would step up under Nash Racela’s system with fellow vets Mike Tolomia and Mac Belo already seen as marked men in their opponent’s scouting reports.
During Game 1 of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 77 men’s hoops finals, the 22-year old forward from Talisay, Cebu delivered the much-needed third scoring threat for the Tamaraws, as his 10 third-quarter points made National University’s defense pay for not marking him down.
Pogoy’s effort earns him the Fullcourtfresh.com Hero of the Week award.
He finished the game with 14 points on six-for-10 shooting, which was pivotal in their 75-70 win to help FEU move within a win of securing their first men’s crown since 2005.
Game 2 of the Finals is set on Wednesday, October 8, at the Araneta Coliseum.
