The country has a lone Taekwondo Olympian for the games in Brazil this August after Elaine Alora placed second at the qualifiers on Saturday.

Alora defeated a much bigger Akram Khodobandeh 10-3 at the Asian Taekwondo Olympic Qualifiers’ female 67+ classification for a sure seat to Rio.

“Pinag-aralan talaga namin lahat na kailangan naming i-focus yung speed ko and yung strategy namin kung paano sisirain ang matatangkad na players,” she told reports after her win at Marriott Hotel in Pasay.

Cambodia’s Seavmey Sorm would blank her in the competition’s finals, leaving Alora to settle for silver with her slot.

Other Philippine Taekwondo bets Kristoffer Uy, Samuel Morrison, and Pauline Louise Lopez, were not as fortunate on the mat.

Uy lost 7-6 via golden to Palestinian Bahri Tanrikulu in the opening match while Samuel Morrison saw a 6-3 lead vanish at the last round of his quarterfinals match against Chinese Taipei’s Wei Ting-Liu on Saturday.

Lopez on the other hand fell to Thai Phannapa Harnsijun 5-2 on Sunday.
