University of Santo Tomas (UST) and University of the Philippines Team A (UP-A) will square off in the mixed division finals of the inaugural Indoor Ultimate Developmental League (IUDL) after prevailing in a grueling eight-team field on Friday at the University of the Philippines’ College of Human Kinetics Gymnasium.
In the semifinals of the tournament supported by Gerry’s Grill, Boon, Team Manila, Rexona, and Fullcourtfresh.com held late in the afternoon, UST captured a tough 11-9 victory over University of Asia and the Pacific, while UP-A squeaked past UP-B with a 9-8 result to close out the day’s intense action.
The open division title match between UST and UP-A in the first-ever indoor ultimate tournament held in the country co-presented by Roxy, Great Taste White, Gold’s Gym, Maynilad, DC Shoes, The Orange Segment, and Red Dragon Active Smart, will round out the day’s championship matches at 4:35 p.m.
Other teams that saw action in the mixed division were De La Salle University, Ateneo de Manila University, and De La Salle University-Science Technollogy Campus (DLSU-STC) Teams A and B.
In the high school boys’ division, Philippine Science High School-B (PSHS-B) and Claret School both finished on top of their respective brackets with identical 3-0 marks to receive direct tickets to the semifinals in the final day.
Vying for the chance to face PSHS-B will be La Salle Greenhills (0-2) and PSHS Team A (1-1), while Claret awaits the winner of the Ateneo High School (1-1) vs Colegio San Agustin (0-2). Both quarterfinal matches are scheduled to kick off the final day on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
Meanwhile, Miriam High School-A swept their two-game classification round to top the three-team field in the high school girls’ division. Assumption Antipolo (1-1) and sister squad MCHS-B (0-2) finished second and third, respectively, and will square off in the semifinal match at 1:35 p.m.
