(Note: From our friends at PSID) Traveling is one of the most enriching experiences one could ever have. Getting to learn about an unknown place’s culture, listening to the beats of the streets, and of course, marveling at the design and architecture of famous landmarks. The Philippine School of Interior Design (PSID) gives you the feeling of traveling the world without buying a plane ticket or even leaving the city as they mount “Globalscapes”, the graduation exhibit of the school’s Advanced Class of 2014.

Marking the 47th year of PSID, this year’s exhibit showcases the beauty and cultural richness across six continents by translating the different cultural aspects into aesthetically and functionally designed interior spaces.

Exhibit-goers can have a taste of twenty-two beautiful countries and their culture, traditions, practices, folklores, art, architecture, and music and reinterpret them into exquisitely and expertly decorated spaces. Students are also asked to incorporate an unfamiliar cultural element into their design to highlight its importance to their assigned country and to help exhibit-goers get to know even more about the beauty of another culture.

Aside from being inspired by their assigned countries, students are asked to take into account basic design principles and ergonomics to make spaces that not only look good, but are functional. After visiting the exhibit, the audience is expected not just to marvel at the creations of the Advanced Class, but to also have a better sense of appreciation of cultural diversity and to gain more knowledge and understanding of different countries.

Slated to run from October 1-31 at the Supersale Hall of  SM North EDSA, the exhibit will showcase 22 exquisitely-designed spaces representing the following countries: Philippines, India, Cambodia, Turkey, Japan, UAE, Sweden, UK, Italy, Greece, Czech Republic, Russia, Spain, Australia, South Africa, Kenya, Egypt, USA, Mexico, Brazil, Cuba, and Peru.

For decades now, PSID has been known to produce groundbreaking exhibits that become the benchmark of interior design exhibits in the academe. “Globalscapes” is carefully planned, extensively researched and masterfully executed, a trademark that all PSID exhibits have always been known for and will continue to be known for in the years to come.
