Indoor disc action kicks off in IUDL 2014

Frisbee flicking moves from field to hardcourt as the Indoor Ultimate Developmental League (IUDL)  kicks off on January 31 at the College of Human Kinetics in UP Diliman.

Headed by teachers Paul Libo-on and Jamel Pangandaman, the first indoor ultimate tournament pushes for a feasible alternative: same spirit of disc action without the usual heat from playing in the great outdoors.

“In trying to promote ultimate, we came across a lot of schools who are hesistant of including ultimate in their curriculum because they don’t have a field to play in,” Libo-on told fullcourtfresh.com. In a basketball-crazy country, a version of ultimate played on court  might  “pave the way for its inclusion in the PE programs of various schools leading to a grass roots program that will be able to produce future ultimate athletes.”

With open and women’s categories for highschool and mixed divisions for college players, IUDL hopes that participants “realize the possibility of playing Ultimate in this setting in their respective schools.”

“(Players)  will be able to compete in a variation of the sport that suits the general landscape of the Philippines,” marketing head Anna Mapolon told fullcourtfresh.com.

Ultimate is a self-officiating non-contact seven-a-side disc sport played in an open field.
