Kim Yong Hwan sank crucial triples to lead Korean Basketball League squad Changwon LG Sakers in staving off Philippine Basketball Association’s Barangay Ginebra San Miguel’s late game run to pull off an 81-76 thriller in the Asian Basketball Showdown presented by LG at the Araneta Coliseum on Tuesday night.

The lanky sharpshooter, who wound up with 15 points on four-for-13 shooting from downtown with five rebounds, buried a pair of triples in the last two minutes to inflate their one-point lead to eight, 79-71, in the last 38.2 of the match and pull away for good.

American import Christoper Massie was named the game’s most valuable player, scoring 24 points, grabbing 14 boards, and handing out four assists. Ki Seung Ho added 21 markers, while Kim Si Rae chipped in 13 points and seven assists.

Greg Slaughter made his presence felt in the low-blocks, taking Massie head-on and piling up 23 points and gathering 12 rebounds for the Gin Kings, which played without Gilas Pilipinas stars Japeth Aguilar and LA Tenorio.

Aguilar and Tenorio, however, sat on the team bench after returning to the country earlier in the day from Spain.

Chris Ellis and Mac Baracael contributed 13 points apiece, while newly-acquired two-guard Joseph Yeo put up nine.
