We always wondered how easy (or hard) it is to shoot sports with a smartphone. So when we got our hands on a Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus just last Friday, we let our chief photographer Martin San Diego give it a spin for the Ateneo vs La Salle game at the Mall of Asia Arena.
The photos were all taken with the smartphone’s native camera app, and were post-processed using Snapseed.
As an Apple fanboy, Martin found the native camera app’s “Pro” mode a welcome and dependable feature.
ISO 800 was the highest he could go, theoretically a bit restrictive compared to almost any camera, but at F/1.9 and with lots of help from the venue’s good lighting, the S6 Edge Plus was able to freeze moments with relative ease.
His only gripe with the camera app’s “Pro” mode is it disables the burst feature, which lets users shoot 30 photos in one press (it’s still available in auto mode though!) But overall, he’s impressed with the camera features and the quality of images the smartphone gave.

The rear camera shoots at 16 Megapixels with 16:9 ratio

“Pro” mode enabled Martin to set the shutter speed to 1/750, enough to freeze soaring players and flying basketballs

This dunk by Chibueze Ikeh shows exactly what the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus’ camera can do
