Passion.

Innovation.

Domination.

Hype for any upcoming UAAP Cheerdance Competition is always bigger. The event has gained more popularity. Fans of competing teams have grown from beyond their own schools to outsiders who have fallen in love with the grand event.

Crowns have been won and lost, in the name of school spirit. Who prevails through this pressure, however, still remains to be seen on Saturday, September 17, at 3pm.

To keep the excitement alive, some teaser videos regarding the cheerdance competition have surfaced: from recycled videos of previous years’ routines to snippets of the teams in training.

FCF picked some of the well-made teasers we saw, and we expect more videos from the teams themselves to surface as competition day draws nearer.

UST

With their rigorous training and praise-worthy discipline, the UST Salinggawi Dance Troupe has always edged as a top contender in the cheerdance competition since its inception in 1994. Mixed with their ingenuity for stunning pyramids and their aptitude on the dance floor, the UST SDT rarely misses a spot on the competition. With the most number of titles on their belt, this CDC powerhouse is expected to execute an awe-inspiring routine this Saturday.

UST’s teaser chronicles the previous routines of the team, as well as behind-the-scenes footage of their training.

Watching the Ateneo Blue Babble Battalion perform usually reminds us of traditional cheerleading. From their white and blue uniforms to their silver pompoms, it reminds us of the good old days of cheers and stunts. But the Ateneo BBB has also been evolving by performing a few surprises no one ever expected. And that “surprise” really paid off as they were able to make it to the top 3 for the first time in 2009. Now, we are looking forward on how they mix their traditional performances with astonishing routines as they compete on Saturday for the CDC Championship.

Ateneo’s teaser incorporates behind-the-scene footages with videography that gives it a nice music video feel, which is an understatement.

DLSU

DLSU ANIMO SQUAD 2011 from Adi Bontuyan on Vimeo.

While most people won’t probably remember this anymore, during the early years of the CDC when the DLSU Animo Squad was still known as the DLSU Pep Squad, the team had been performing quite superbly by ending at least on the top 3. There lies the expectation that one day they will be able to covet again a top spots of the contest. With their cool music over their cooler dance moves, together with their increasing use of difficult stunts, they might just clinch a spot this Saturday and leave everybody speechless.

DLSU’s video also has a music video feel, sans behind-the-scenes footage.

UP

Current titleholder UP Pep Squad has always been quirky in the CDC. From the signature chants in Filipino to the squad members’ uniform hair, the UP Pep graces the floor oozing with distinctive themes, innovative dances and gravity-defying routines that assures entertainment for the expected jam-packed crowd. Pressure is up for the squad as the competition on Saturday will determine if they keep the crown.

This teaser stands out from the rest: it’s a tutorial on how cheer for the UP Pep Squad on Saturday.. It is simple yet intriguing. One can also catch a glimpse of UP Pep members that have gone blonde for the competition.
