A Filipino boxer finally enters the medal round with lightweight Charly Suarez defeated Ammar Jabbar Hasan or Iraq via unanimous decision Monday at the Seonhak Stadium in Incheon.
The win came even if Suarez was assessed with a one-point deduction in the second round.
All three judges scored the bout at 29-27 in favor of the 2011 Southeast Asian Games medalist.
Suarez, assured of at least a bronze medal already, will face Jordan’s Obada Mohammad Al-Kasbeh, who came from slugfest against London Olympic silver medalist Han Soon-Chul of South Korea.
The twenty-year-old Jordanian scored a unanimous decision but in a close one, winning 29-28 in the score cards of all three judges.
While Suarez has avoided the highly-touted Han, Al-Sakbeh is a proven power puncher in the tournament, scoring a second round technical knockout against Pakistan’s Ali Ahmad in the Round-of-16.
The winner of the Suarez-Al-Sakbeh fight will face the winner of the other semifinals match between Japan’s Satoshi Simizhu and Mongolia’s Otgondalai Dorjnyambuu.
