The University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons (1-1) pummeled the UE Red Warriors (0-3) remaining them winless 84-71 earlier today, September 17 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The Katipunan-based team started out slow as it ended the first quarter with 18-27, respectively.
Led by rookie point-guard, Jun Manzo, the Fighting Maroons tried to even the gap in the second quarter, however, the Red Warriors did not let their opponent outrun them leaving UP just closing the gap to 38-42 in favor of UE.
As the second half began, Coach Perasol’s squad bombarded the Warriors of Recto pulling away by a margin of 15 points at the end of the third quarter.
“We are just happy that we are able to get through this game against a tough opening by UE. That we were able to bounce back despite the fact that we were outplayed on the first minutes of the game,” Coach Bo Perasol stated.
Meanwhile, Clark Derige of the Red Warriors tallied 21 points and nine rebounds while Mark Maloles contributed 16 points.
Star point guard Paul Desiderio and center Ibrahim Quattara bannered UP by pitching a whopping 28 points and 10 rebounds and 14 points and 18 rebounds, respectively.
