UAAP power house De La Salle University Green Archers massacred the winless University of Sto. Tomas Growling Tigers at the Smart Araneta Coliseum today, September 30, 115-86.
Today’s win was a huge comeback for the Green Archers after their loss against the UP Fighting Maroons staining their spotless record last September 23.
The Growling Tigers tried to cope with pace of DLSU and maintained the gap with a single digit, ending the first quarter with 30-21 in favor of the Green Archers.
Led by their big man, Ben Mbala who contributed 17 points in the first half, the Taft-based squad did not let their guard down with the Tigers trailing them behind with 18 points at the end of second quarter, 60-42, respectively.
The Espana Tigers tried to even the gap during the third quarter, but every time they notch a basket, the Archers keeps answering back.
Coach Aldin’s battalion ended the game with a vast lead of 29 points with Ben Mbala, Andrei Caracut and Leonard Santillian pitching in 29 points and 9 rebounds, 14 points and 1 rebound, and 13 points and rebounds, respectively.
In addition, today ends the double-double streak of La Salle’s big man, Ben Mbala, but he said that it doesn’t really matter as long as the team wins.
“I’m not here to look for double doubles, I’m just here to help the team win. It’s not about my stats, it’s about the team winning. If ever the team will play better, I will give that away, I won’t mind.”
