The University of Sto. Tomas Tigresses bested the National University Lady Bulldogs in a four-set match (3-1) today, March 25 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Despite the loss, the Lady Bulldogs started the fire of the game as they have shown a powerful first set lead by team captain, Jaja Santiago, 22-25, respectively.

During the second set, the Tigresses finally warmed up and slowly took over the game and started penetrating the defense of the Lady Bulldogs finishing the set 25-23.

As the third set commenced, the Sampaloc-based squad started to slow down their pace and committed multiple errors that became an advantage for the Spikers from Espana to take the set from them with 25-21 and giving UST a 1-set lead.

In the last set, the Lady Bulldogs seemed to have let their guards down as they were bombarded by the Tigresses with unstoppable shots that lead into 11-point deficit that eventually led to their loss in today’s game, 25-9, respectively.

Even though the team committed multiple mistakes throughout the game, Coach Kung Fu Reyes stated that, “Tapos na, ang importante kung anong meron ngayon ‘yon ang pinapahalagahan naming. Kung nag-error ka, bumawi ka na lang sa receive, kung nag-error ka sa palo bumawi ka sa block. Bumawi ka sa lahat. Basta ang importante, ‘pag nagkamali, kalimutan na.”

Bannering the UST Tigresses are team captain, Cherry Anne Rondina with 25 points and Milena Alessandrini with 19 points.

On the other hand, leading the NU Bulldogs are team captain, Jaja Santiago with a whopping 27 points in total.
