Nico Javelona knocked down a pair of triples early in the fourth quarter to extend their one point advantage to seven points and put the game out of reach.
Javelona finshed with 11 points, with all of his field goals (three-for-five) came from long range.
Leading their cause was Gelo Alolino with 14 points and three assists, followed by Reden Celda’s 13 points on five-for-seven shooting, and Glenn Khobuntin’s 12 markers and nine boards.
“It was a sloppy game for us. I wasn’t happy with the way we played. But a win is a win, and we have to move on and focus on La Salle on Saturday,” said NU Head Coach Eric Altamirano.
The Bulldogs clinch at least a playoff for a spot in the Final Four, and must win their final elimination round game against De La Salle University in Saturday’s 6:00 pm match to enter the next phase outright.
Karim Abdul paced UST’s cause with 15 points, nine rebounds, five steals, and five blocks, while Ed Daquioag added 13 points, five assists, and three steals.
