If there’s one player on the University of the East roster who is sick and tired of their losing ways, it has to be star guard Roi Sumang.
For the past two seasons, the Red Warriors have been languishing at the bottom since the end of the Paul Lee era. However, with Sumang’s stellar play under the guidance of returning head coach Boycie Zamar, the Red Warriors have flourished and seek to make their return among the UAAP’s elite.
In their victory against University of Santo Tomas, Sumang scored 12 of his 20 points in the final period, including the game-winning layup with 11 seconds on the clock, to complete a comeback for the ages.
With his influential playmaking and scoring, he has been chosen as Fullcourtfresh.com’s first Hero of the Week this season.

“Sabi ni coach kung sino raw ang may pinakamalaking puso. So ako na naman kinuha ko na naman ulit,” said the diminutive 22 year old guard of his game-winning play.

His notable performance this week bested Benilde guard Paolo Taha, who was named the NCAA Press Corps Player of the Week.
