
Jose Rizal University’s star guard Philip Paniamogan shot the lights out in the second half to propel the Heavy Bombers past Mapua Institute of Technology, 87-78, to close out their first round in the 90th National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) seniors basketball tournament at The Arena in San Juan City.
Paniamogan, who started off scoreless with a 0-for-5 clip from the field in his first nine minutes on the floor, fired off 26 points on 7-for-16 field goals and making all seven free throws in the second half to lead JRU to their fourth consecutive victory and gain sole possession of third place with a 6-3 won-lost card.
Anthony Benavides added 17 points, while Tey Teodoro contributed 12 points, five rebounds, and five assists.
CJ Isit fell short of a rare triple-double output with 21 points, nine rebounds, and 10 assists in the contest to lead the Cardinals, which ends their first round campaign with a 1-8 card.
