It needed just an hour for the people inside Flying V Arena to see how La Salle notch victory number three and stay atop of the standings.
This as the Lady Spikers pulled off a fast, straight set conquest over the National U Lady Bulldogs, 25-11, 25-14 and 25-9.
The Taft-based Lady Spikers dominated the game from the get-go as they mauled the Lady Bulldogs into submission with their usual merciless spikes and well-timed blocks but had controlled execution that saw DLSU commit only seven errors.
Jacqueline Alarca spearheaded La Salle’s charge with 13 points (8 spikes, 4 aces, 1 block). Alarca was ably supported by Stephanie Mercado and Abigail Maraño, who combined for 21 points.
La Salle’s defense held National U’s attackers, primarily on top hitter Mervic Mangui. Mangui was limited to four points as no player among the Lady Bulldogs got above six points.
In the second game, Adamson bounced back from their opening week loss, grabbing its first win of the season at the expense of FEU in five sets, 25-17, 23-25, 14-25, 25-14 and 15-10.
Angela Benting had a superb spiking game as she had 19 points, all on spikes, to lead all scorers. Benting was not alone though as she had tremendous help coming from Paulina Soriano, who had 18 points and Shiela Pineda, who had 15 points.
With the win, Adamson had their first win in two games. They lost to La Salle in straight sets last Nov. 28.
The rookie-laden FEU team surprised Adamson in the first three sets as they led the San Marcelino-based team with excellent team plays but when it came to the crucial sets, they just could not muster enough guts to outclass a seasoned team in Adamson.
Rosemarie Vargas led FEU, who is now 0-2, with 17 points.
In the men’s division, FEU and La Salle continued their unbeaten run as they overwhelmed their respective foes.
FEU copped their third straight win as they clobbered National U, 25-12, 23-25, 27-25 and 28-26.
Rodolfo Labrador Jr. was superb again as he had 19 points, on 16 spikes, to lead the Tamaraws.
Labrador was ably supported by Karl dela Calzada, Pitrus Paolo de Ocampo and Nestor Molate, who combined for 35 points.
Danilo Ramosa led NU, now 1-2, with 14 points.
La Salle eked out a five-set thriller over University of the Philippines, 25-16, 25-18, 19-25, 17-25 and 15-12 to gain their second straight win.
Team captain Chris Macasaet stood up when they needed it most as he bunched in a team high 25 points to lead his team over the Fighting Maroons.
Macasaet got help from Mark Lee (17 points), Christopher Antonio (12 points), Carlo Rivera (11 points) and John Kevin dela Vega (9 points) to outsteady UP, who came back from two sets down by winning the next two sets to force a deciding set.
Johnal Rey Pamintuan led UP, which has yet to win a match in two games, with 14 points.
