The UAAP Season 74 Closing Ceremonies was held at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) on Saturday, March 11.
De La Salle University swimmer Johansen Benedict Aguilar was named one of the Athletes of the year, garnering seven gold medals in the Mens Swimming Tournament last September. Adamson University’s softball player Rizza Bernardino, walked away with almost all the individual awards (Best hitter, slugger, pitcher, and with the most runs batted in) was also awarded, along with UST High School’s Taekwondo Jin Joaquin Mendoza. Mendoza was a top rookie last year and was awarded the Most Valuable Player in Juniors Taekwondo, clinching the gold in the boys lightweight class.
In the General Championship race, The University of Sto. Tomas walked away with their 6th straight Juniors trophy. In the Seniors Division, UST had a total of 298 points, winning their 14th consecutive title. De La Salle University followed with 270 points while the Far Eastern University came in third with 229. The University of the Philippines had 219 points, which placed them at 4th and host school Ateneo de Manila University was in 5th place with 207 points. The University of the East had 140 points, while Adamson University and National University had 105 and 81 points respectively.
Ricky Palou, Season 74 president and Ateneo Athletics Head, led the closing ceremonies and turned over hosting duties to the incoming league president, Nilo Ocampo, who is the director of alumni relations at NU.
