Do-it-all guard Baser Amer may not be a physical specimen compared to some of his teammates and foes, but he has the guts of a warrior and the mind of a tactician to lead San Beda College to its fifth straight National Collegiate Athletic Association seniors basketball title.
The former Red Cub did not do his damage in the points column of his stats line, but his superb playmaking found the right people like Anthony Semerad and Ola Adeogun who did their share on the offensive end.
Amer dished off a whopping 11 assists during the first half alone, mostly to Semerad and Adeogun, and anchored the four big men lineup designed by Boyet Fernandez to neutralize the quick attacking style of Arellano University.
For his efforts during their two-game sweep of the Chiefs in the NCAA seniors hoops finals, Fullcourtfresh.com recognizes Amer as the FCF Hero of the Week.
Fernandez himself tipped his hat to his prized guard, saying that his plays contributed much to their overall success this season.
“I really admire the way Baser [Amer] is as a leader of this team. Kung saan gusto ni Baser pumunta, doon pupunta ang San Beda,” said Fernandez.
“I consider Baser as the best point guards in the league, especially in college basketball. Hopefully, he’ll improve more and he will be in the PBA for years to come. This championship will never happen without him.”
The fourth-year combo guard reassured the Red Lions’ fans that he will return to the den for one more run at the title, his fifth since joining the seniors’ ranks in 2011.
“As of now, madami pang kailangang i-improve. Hindi ako nagmamadali mag-PBA, kailangan pang magpalakas ng katawan at kailangang mag-improve ng skills,” said Amer.
