Despite turning the ball over 30 times, the DLSU Green Archers held on for a 72-64 win against the pesky UE Red Warriors.
The Green Archers led by as much as 13 points, but the Red Warriors managed to stay close by forcing turnovers and running the fast break.
Rookie guard Joshua Torralba put the game away with two minutes left to play after he nailed a three pointer that gave the Green Archers a 13 point lead.
“It’s a good thing the players were able to get their composure back,” shared DLSU head coach Juno Sauler after the win.
“We did better in this game compared to the first [against UE],” he added.
Jeron Teng led the way for La Salle with 20 points, six rebounds, and three assists, but he made just six of 15 field goals. Thomas Torres scored 15 points, 14 of which came in the first half, and grabbed five rebounds. Torres scored seven straight points to close the first half to give the Green Archers an 11 point lead entering the break.
Larry Muyang had nine points and 11 rebounds while Torralba, Jason Perkins, and Prince Rivero scored eight apiece for the Green Archers.
UE managed to stay in the game with their full court press and stingy half court defense which forced DLSU into several failed isolation plays.
They failed to hold up on the offensive end, though, and shot just 30 percent from the field throughout the game. Chris Javier led the charge for the Red Warriors with 14 points and 12 rebounds while Emil Palma had 14 of his own off the bench. Bonbon Batiller added nine points and Paul Varilla scored eight.
