During the second quarter of the match between the UST Growling Tigers and the DLSU Green Archers, the latter lead by as much as 11 points. The Green Archers were still ahead by the end of the third quarter, 66-59.
But the game ended happily for the Growling Tigers who recovered to make the final score 81-79. The feat gave the Tigers their seventh win in eight tries in UAAP Season 78.
Things started turning around for UST when Ed Daquiaog and Kevin Ferrer made two points each to tie the score at 66-all at 8 minutes and 11 seconds left in the third quarter. When UST produced a two-point lead with 6 minutes and 19 seconds left in the fourth quarter, DLSU was no longer able to catch up and it was a UST show all the way until the final seconds.
The best player for UST was Karim Adbul who made 18 points and 11 rebounds. UST Team Captain Kevin Ferrer was not at his top form, missing some free throws and failing to make some shots. Still, Ferrer posted 15 markers—just two points ahead of fellow Tiger Ed Daquioag who made 17 points.
“Depensa talaga ang nagpapanalo sa amin,” said Ferrer. “Mabuti at pinagkatiwalaan pa rin ako ng aming coaches kahit naging ganon ang laro ko.”
Meanwhile, UST Coach Bong dela Cruz said that he hopes that their next win would not be a come-from-behind feat. “Sana sa susunod na game, dere-derecho na ang lamang namin.”
UST will be going up against the National University Bulldogs on October 17, Saturday while the Green Archers will take on the UE Red Warriors on October 14, Wednesday.
