Another Filipino taekwondo jin won the bronze medal in taekwondo, as former La Salle Green Archer Benjamin Keith Sembrano was routed by Chinese Huang Jiannan in the under-68 kilogram division Thursday at the Gonghwa Dolmens Gym in Incheon.
Huang mauled with numerous jab kicks, four of which landed cleanly in the first round.
The Chinese routed the Filipino, 16-3, in the final tally.
Sembrano first defeated Hassan Abdullah of Kuwait, 12-10, in the round-of-16.
In the quarterfinals, the Pinoy nipped Chetrapee Tangjai in another squeaker, 12-9.
Filipina Jane Rafaelle Narra did not share Sembrano’s fate though, as she bowed to China’s Guo Yunfei, 0-5, in the women’s under-67 kilograms quarterfinals.
The Philippine taekwondo team is still hopeful for two more medals tomorrow as veterans Japoy Lizardo and Francis Agojo battle their respective foes on Friday.
Sembrano was the fourth bronze medalist for the taekwondo team, upping the Philippines’ medal production to one gold, two silver, and six bronze medals with one day remaining in the competition.
The Philippines is currently at 22nd place in the medal standing.
