2014 ASIAN GAMES: PH softbelles absorb third loss, bowlers in striking distance

With four playing dates left, team Philippines has not won any gold medal yet as the country’s medal yield still stand at two silver medals and two bronze medals, good enough for 26th place alongside Kyrgyzstan.

The Philippines absorbed another painful loss as the national softball team absorbed a 4-5 defeat against Chinese Taipei Monday at the Songdo LNG Stadium in Incheon.

The Taiwanese softbelles banked on a rousing start, scoring a run in the first three innings and punctuating their scoring streak with a double double in the fourth inning for a 5-1 lead.

The Blu Girls then stymied the Taiwanese defense in the next inning as they scored three runs of Filipino-Americans Garnet Blando and Danielle Gilmore to inch in closer at 4-5.

However, both squads entered into a scoreless duel in the last two innings.

The Philippines absorbed its third successive loss and are now at fifth place at 1-3.

In bowling, the men’s team of five composed of veterans Engelberto Rivera, Frederick Ong, Kenneth Chua, Jo Mar Jumapao, and Enrico Hernandez 2,969 points to place at fifth in the first block of the competition at the Anyang Hogye Gymnasium.

The team is a mere 187 points behind leader South Korea.

The second block with commence on Tuesday to determine the medalists of said event.
