(UPDATED: September 15, 2013 – 1:21am) University of the East ended Adamson’s roller coaster season via a 77-60 scoreline in the opening match in Saturday’s UAAP Season 76 men’s basketball action at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Although both the Adamson and UE are already out of the race for the championship, both squads looked to finish the season with a win – something that they lacked all season long. Pride is the main thing that both the Soaring Falcons and Red Warriors are fighting for, and people expected a tight and highly contested match.
Charles Mammie, on the other hand, had other things in mind.
The behemoth scored 24 points along with 24 monstrous rebounds to lead the Red Warriors in terms of scoring.
Bong Galanza stepped up big and thoroughly filled the shoes of Roi Sumang with 17 points, while a returning Ralf Olivares posted in 11 points and five rebounds.
According to UE head coach Boycie Zamar, Sumang was already able to play but decided to sit him out as a precautionary measure.
Celedonio Trollano led the San Marcelino-based squad with 15 points, whilst Ryan Monteclaro added in 10 points to complete Adamson’s double digit scorers list.
The game was tight in the first half with none of the teams letting each other pull away. The tides began to change on the second quarter after several key baskets by Charles Mammie and Gino Jumao-as.
Eventually, UE pulled away with a double digit lead early in the fourth quarter to finally end Adamson’s misery.
