National University found a way to keep their composure under highly physical circumstances, as they survive University of the East by a tally of 81-73.
Led by the combined efforts of two-time reigning MVP Bobby Ray Parks and Cameroonian big man Jean Mbe, who piled on 18 points apiece, the Bulldogs now extend their longest winning run in the three seasons under head coach Eric Altamirano.
Following the game, Coach Altamirano was able to relay through Fullcourtfresh.com how the Bulldogs survived a very tough customer.
“We always remind our players not to get into (excessively physical plays) and play our game,” said the third year mentor. “But that’s the personality of the (UE Red Warriors). Parang (Barangay) Ginebra (San Miguel) sila.”
“It was tough. Wala silang (Charles) Mammie, walang (Lord) Casajeros, but they’re right there with us. They stayed with us,” added Altamirano.
JM Noble paced the Red Warriors with 16 points and seven rebounds, while Ralf Olivares added 15 points before fouling out late in the third period.
Meanwhile, Adamson University downed the still-winless University of the Philippines, 67-53, in the day’s first contest.
Featuring a season-high performance from Jansen Rios, who scored 16 points on a near-perfect 7-for-8 shooting from the field, the Falcons (4-8) end an extended six game slide at the expense of the still-winless Fighting Maroons (0-10).
