
(UPDATED 7:21 p.m.) The University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) has announced that Wednesday’s doubleheaders have been postponed due to inclement weather experienced in the Metro Manila area in the wake of typhoon Glenda (international codename Rammasun) that is projected to directly hit the Philippines’ capital.
From the official statement relased by the league:
“Season 77 host University of the East (UE) has announced the cancelation of the men’s basketball games at the Mall of Asia Arena and the women’s basketball matches at the Blue Eagle gym scheduled for tomorrow (Wednesday, July 16) because of Typhoon Glenda.
New schedules and venues to be announced.”
Among those affected are the University of Santo Tomas (UST)-UE tie and the Adamson University (AdU)-Far Eastern University (FEU) match in the men’s basketball tournament scheduled for a 2:00 pm start at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Also, the four-game women’s hoops bill pitting University of the Philippines (UP) against National University (NU), De La Salle University (DLSU) against FEU, UST against UE, and Ateneo de Manila University (AdMU) against AdU at the Blue Eagle Gym scheduled at 9:00 am on Wednesday has also been scratched.
NCAA follows suit, suspends Wednesday games
Meanwhile, the National Collegiate Athletic Association decided late Tuesday night that their matches on Wednesday at The Arena in San Juan City has also been postponed for a later date.
Initially scheduled to play were De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde against the red-hot University of Perpetual Help five at 2:00 pm, while hard-nosed squads San Sebastian College and Emilio Aguinaldo College will face off in the 4:00 pm match.
