After a euphoric Monday night, Team Philippines woke up to a nightmare on Day 4 of the Olympics as judo pride Kiyomi Watanabe quickly fell in the women’s judo 63 kg. competition with an ippon loss to Spanish rookie Cristina Cabaña Perez Tuesday at the Nippon Budokan in Tokyo.

Watanabe, the Philippines’ flag bearer, got caught in a north-south position by Cabaña within the first minute of their Round-of-32 match.

With Watanabe locked in an armbar, Cabaña ended the 2018 Asian Games silver medalist’s Olympic debut in just 33 seconds.

Later on Day 4, swimmers Remedy Rule and Luke Gebbie will plunge in the preliminary heats in the women’s 200 m. butterfly and men’s 100 m. freestyle, respectively.

Weightlifter Elreen Ando will try to repeat Hidilyn Diaz’s golden performance last night as she competes in the women’s 64 kg. category for the nightcap.
