The San Beda Red Lions proved that they deserve to defend their throne when they pinned down the San Sebastian Golden Stags in a do or die stepladder semis, 76-71, in the Mall of Asia Arena last November 7.
The Red Lions immediately fired up the first quarter and let the Stags ate their dust as they trailed them behind by 15 points at the end of the period, 26-11.
As the second quarter commenced, Coach Egay’s battalion tried to even the gap but apparently, they cannot cope with the defense that the Men in Red were showing.
Led by Robert Bolick who contributed 12 points and AC Soberano who garnered 9 points under 7 minutes in the first half, the Red Lions ended it with a 13-point deficit, 44-31.
During the third quarter, San Sebastian applied their half time adjustments and trimmed down the gap into 6 points, 57-51 in favor of San Beda.
It could have been the Stags’ game if they had not committed 26 fouls that became a huge advantage for the Lions.
In addition, pitching in big points for San Sebastian were Jayson David, Ryan Costello and Michael Calisaan with 16, 15 and 10 points, respectively.
On the other hand, bannering San Beda were Javee Mocon with a huge double double, 23 points and 22 rebounds and Robert Bolick with 21 points and 4 rebounds.
The NCAA finals game 1 between San Beda Red Lions and LPU Pirates will be on Friday, 3:30 P.M at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
