Allain Keanu Ganapin has made history as the Philippines’ paralympian in taekwondo.

Among those who celebrated Allain’s extra special feat was his hometown of Marikina City.

In a simple ceremony, Marikina 1st District Rep. Maan Teodoro presented a certificate of recognition, signed by Marikina City Mayor Marcy Teodoro, to Allain, who has secured his second straight Paralympic appearance in Paris, France.

The certificate was presented to Alain in recognition of his “remarkable achievement as the first Filipino taekwondo Paralympian.”

The city of Marikina said that “Allain’s  dedication, perseverance, and outstanding sportsmanship bring immense pride to Marikina City and serve as an inspiration to all.”

The city government also highlighted that Allain’s journey “reflects the strength and spirit of our community.”

In a separate message, Rep. Teodoro lauded Allain’s feat, saying his Paralympic stint helps put the spotlight on Marikina City and its residents.

“From Marikina hanggang Paris! Iba talaga ang galing ng mga taga-Marikina!” she said.

Allain competed in the 80-kilogram category on Aug. 31 (Saturday). He  won his opening bout, 23-13, versus Afghan Hadi Hassanzada of the Refugee Paralympic Team. However, Allain lost to Paralympic veteran Abulfaz Abuzarli of Azerbaihan, 9-12.

The City of Marikina is nonetheless proud of Allain. In a Facebook post Rep. Teodoro declared on behalf of the Mariqueños: “Maraming salamat sa pagwagayway mo sa bandera nating mga taga-Marikina at mga Pilipino!”
