
University of the Philippines-Diliman survived a late-match onslaught by De La Salle University-Manila, 15-10 to capture the 2014 National Ultimate Collegiate Championship on Sunday at the Greenfield City Sports Field in Sta. Rosa, Laguna.
The Maroon squad, which needed just four points to win the title, nearly squandered their lead and saw their counterparts from Taft Avenue to close in to one point, 11-10, which was the nearest that the Green-clad squad would reach.
In Pool B, Centro Escolar University defeated University of Asia and the Pacific, 13-6.
Meanwhile, UP-Los Banos and Far Eastern University nabbed consolation third place finishes in the tournament.
UPLB easily dispatched Ateneo de Manila University, 9-2, in Pool A, while FEU stopped Malayan Colleges Laguna, 9-5, in Pool B.
This is the third straight year that UP captured the title in the event organized by the University of the Philippines Diliman Ultimate Organization (UP DUO) sponsored by Axe, Maynilad, Dove, Belkin, Cha Dao, Boon, The Orange Segment, Wengman, and Fullcourtfresh.com, and their fourth overall title since the event was known as the Intercollegiat FrIXbee Championship in 2011.
