Manila, Philippines—NBA Champion and OKC Thunder guard Isaiah Joe visited the NBA Store in SM Megamall Friday night and was met by a lot of Oklahoma City Thunder fans doing his known 3-point celebration as he entered the venue.
The OKC guard was surprised to find out that there was a 4-point line in the local pro basketball league and said with a smile, “You say a 4-point line? Is that real? That’s my spot right there, that must be the Isaiah Joe Spot! I think that’s pretty cool.”
The Arkansas-native also shared the challenges their team went through to get to the top. He said that they had to dig very deep and that they had to win a couple of Game 7’s, so going for the victory was definitely not an easy task. He also mentioned the importance of the culture of their team. “We were a group of guys that got stronger and stronger as the season progressed and that helped us in the playoffs.”
Isaiah Joe got waived by the Philadelphia 76ers after the 2021-2022 season, but was lucky to have been picked up by the OKC Thunder the season after. After finding his place in the rotation he earned himself a four-year contract amounting to $48M before he eventually became part of the OKC Thunder’s first-ever Championship winning team.
Isaiah declared, “It’s been a great journey! It’s been tough, but I think the moral of the story is no matter where you at, as long as you stay in the grind, stay consistent, it will work out in the end. I think that’s what kinda what my story shows… that no matter what your situation at that time, if you trust in your work, if you have a dream, you just set goals to reach that dream, anything is possible,”
Isaiah Joe led the Thunder with a 192 three-point baskets in the 24-25 regular season and also led the team in 3-point percentage at 41.2%. While in the playoffs, he averaged 6.4 PPG and shot 41.1% from downtown in 21 appearances for the Thunder’s title run.
