The star-studded Kaya-Iloilo F.C. recovered from an mistake by club and national team captain Hali Long to escape De La Salle University, 2-1, to set a grand finale against Manila Digger at the tailend of the 2023 Philippine Football Federation Women’s League season Saturday evening at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
A streaking Camille Rodriguez absorbed a foul from within the box from Lady Archer Jan Reese Jumawan in the 65th minute that earned a penalty kick from Hazel Lustan.
The conversion was the go-ahead goal for Kaya after conceding an early goal.
In the 18th minute, current leading scorer Angelica Teves sank an open strike off an interception by Shai del Campo of Long’s careless clearance.
Kaya scored the equalizer in the 49th minute as Rodriguez, lurking deep in the right wing, issued a short nifty cross for a Shela Cadag tap-in on the six-yard box.
The La Sallians have ran out of bullets after a great start, with Del Campo missing their only chance on goal as her running attack was saved by goalkeeper Inna Palacios.
With the win, Kaya will meet early semis winner Manila Digger in the one-game finale on November 8.
Digger won via penalties, 4-3, after a goalless draw with defending champions Far Eastern University.
