The Raisa Treñas Inter-District Volleyball League formally kicked off recently at La Paz Covered Court in Iloilo City, with 13 teams seeing action.
Organized by the Iloilo City Sports Development Division and the SK Federation of Iloilo City and supported by Raisa Treñas, the tournament attracted six teams in the men’s division and seven squads in the women’s category.
“We’ve organized this event to bring sports closer to the grassroots level and to strengthen camaraderie between youths from various districts of Iloilo City,” Treñas said during the opening ceremony.
“The tournament also aims to keep our young people away from illegal drugs and other vices while promoting and enhancing their mental health,” she added.
The launch was also attended by Rudiver Jungco Sr., Executive Assistant for Youth and Sports, and Sangguniang Kabataan Federation President Jelma Crystel Implica.
Aside from volleyball, Raisa Treñas is also an avid supporter of basketball as she recently helped organized an Inter-Color Basketball League in Barangay Jereos.
Raisa Treñas, the executive assistant of Mayor Jerry Treñas, has been spearheading various programs for Iloilo City since the pandemic.
