Lady Archers down UAAP Season 75 tormentors for inaugural women’s title

From a slump in the last three years to kings of the summer league.
University of the East completes an unheralded run to the 2013 Filoil Flying V Pre-Season Premier Cup title, following a gutsy 81-68 victory to dethrone defending champions National University on Independence Day Wednesday at The Arena in San Juan City.
Veteran guard Roi Sumang poured 18 points, nine rebounds, and six assists en route to winning the MVP citation. Rookie Ralf Olivarez led the Red Warriors with 19 points and eight boards.
Earlier, San Beda College nabbed third place following a close 74-70 victory over Santo Tomas. Baser Amer posted 15 points and 7 rebounds, while Rome Dela Rosa added 13 points.
In the women’s division, Trisha Piatos buried the game-winning jumper with two seconds left in the ballgame to lift De La Salle University past UAAP Season 75 tormentors Far Eastern University, 53-51, and capture the inaugural title.
Piatos finished with 16 points off the bench, while Cass Santos added nine points and nine rebounds in the win.
Camille Sambile led the Lady Tams with 20 points and nine rebounds in the loss.
