San Sebastian tops UE in overtime, Sanjo tows SWU to second straight win

National University kept their unblemished record intact with a narrow victory over UAAP foe Far Eastern University in their 2013 Filoil Flying V Pre-Season Premier Cup match on Wednesday at The Arena in San Juan City.
The Bulldogs (4-0) banked on Alfred Aroga’s 20 points and 11 boards to claim a slim 67-64 victory over a reprogrammed Tamaraws (1-2) squad under head coach Nash Racela.
Two-time UAAP MVP Bobby Ray Parks had 18 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists in the match, while highly-touted rookie JJ Alejandro chipped in 10 points and 3 assists.
RR Garcia, who sealed a fourth quarter comeback bid for the Tams and recovered from a lackluster first 30 minutes in the match, finished with 14 points and 7 rebounds in the loss.
Terrence Romeo, whose late three-point heave with two seconds on the clock just went wide left, topped all scorers with 25.
Meanwhile, the heavily revamped San Sebastian lineup continues to impress in the tournament, as they deal University of the East’s second-straight setback in three matches in a thrilling 89-87 overtime finish.
Jaymark Perez, already being seen as the Stags’ (2-2) replacement for former do-it-all forward Calvin Abueva, dropped 20 points along with 10 rebounds and 7 assists. Neophyte forward Leo De Vera likewise had 20 points, grabbed 8 rebounds, and swiped six steals.

In the lone women’s division match, De La Salle University kept Lyceum of the Philippines winless in two games via a 59-53 victory in their tournament debut.
Ara Abaca scored 14 points and grabbed 19 rebounds in the match to lead the Lady Archers.
