The De La Salle Lady Spikers ousted the University of Sto. Tomas Tigresses in a five set game (3-2) today, February 3 at the Mall of Asia Arena.
The place was packed by the La Salle and UST community to witness and support the first game of their respective teams in the season 80 women’s volleyball tourney.
It was a breathtaking first set as they went head to head and not letting each rally go to waste but the first set went to the Ladies in Green with 25-20, respectively.
In the second set, the Tigresses from Espana has woke up the beast in them and roared their way to grasp that set which the Spikers from Taft has apparently slowed down by the overwhelming performance given by UST, ending the set with 17-25 in favor of the Tigresses.
As the third quarter commenced, the Spikers in Yellow tried to retain the momentum but was unable so, the Taft-based squad poured everything they’ve got to own the set, 25-22.
During the fourth set, Coach KungFu’s battalion showed the defending champs what they’re made of and how much they have improved for this season by ending the set with 10 points deficit, 25-15.
In the most crucial and last set of the game, led by Team Captain, Joy Baron, the DLSU Lady Spikers came to their senses and bounced back from their lousy previous set and was able to powerfully finished the game, 15-8, respectively.
On the other hand, bannering the UST Tigresses was Cherry Ann Rondina with a whopping 28 points and also earned a praise by DLSU’s Head Coach, Ramil De Jesus.
“Talagang gusting buhatin yung team, ibang klase. Every year naman kasi lumalakas yung bata kasi nasa character naman ng isang player yun kung anong gustong niyang mangyari sa sarili niya.”
