The Ateneo Blue Eagles retained their number one spot, securing their fourth straight appearance in the final four of the UAAP as they defeated the FEU Tamarraws with 70-59 today, October 21 at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
It was an incredible game shown by both teams but only one team has to go home a winner today and it may have been a slow start for the Eagles but, they made sure to penetrate the defense of the Tamarraws.
The FEU Tams dominated the Blue eagles in the first quarter of the game led by Ron Dennison who scored the first seven points for FEU ending the period, 21-12.
On the second quarter, the Katipunan-based squad tried to even the gap and executed a 9-0 run but the Tamarraws exerted a tighter defense to retain the lead and finishing the first half with 34-27.
At the start of the third quarter, Coach Tab’s boys implemented their halftime adjustments that helped them close the gap at the end of the period, 50-47 in favor of FEU.
As the fourth quarter commenced, the Eagles finally found their rhythm as they gained the lead ending the game with FEU trailed behind by 11 points.
Bannering the ADMU were Matt Nieto and Rafael Verano rallying 14 points, respectively.
While Ron Dennison, Arvin Tolentino and Hubert Cani garnered 12 points and 8 rebounds, 11 points and 11 rebounds and 10 points and 2 rebounds, respectively.
