Archers, Bulldogs extend winning runs

Ken Koo | FCFBehind a second half resurgence, De La Salle University defeats University of the Philippines, 85-63, to gain their sixth win and spoil the head coaching return of Rey Madrid in the resumption of UAAP Season 76 men’s basketball play at the Araneta Coliseum on Saturday.

Jason Perkins operated in the shaded lane to lead the Green Archers’ pullaway with 19 points, 11 of which came in the pivotal fourth period. Norbert Torres and Almond Vostotros added 16 apiece.

The Green Archers shot 53 percent from the field in the second half in atonement for their lacadasical first half, where they trailed by as much as seven to end the first half.

Henry Asilum led the Maroons’ failed effort, amounting for 18 points, with Raul Soyud and Joseph Marata each scoring 11.

In the second game, National University extended University of Santo Tomas’ misery via a 75-61 win in Jeric Teng’s abbreviated return.

Off the bench, Robin Rono put up his highest scoring output of the season with 19 points, while Dennice Villamor posted 18 points and nine boards to his name.

Teng, who suffered a shoulder injury via a push from Jeoffrey Javillonar in their first round encounter on July 10, scored only two points in just 10 minutes of action in the first half.
