Attending and participating in football festivals are essential activities for any football enthusiast. Players, especially when they are young, look forward to these events not just to play but to be around friends and enjoy the community atmosphere.
Thankfully, football leagues and tournaments are back! The Aboitiz Cup, one of the longest-running local football tournaments, kicks off its 22nd year with a plentiful 14 categories from the Mixed Under-7’s, Mixed Under-9’s, Mixed Under-11’s then Boys U-13, Boys U-15, Boys U-17, Boys U-19, Boys U-23 then a Mixed Open, Men’s Open and a Women’s Open as well.
The weekend warriors will also have a shot with their own age group categorized into three, namely Veteran’s 30-39, Veteran’s 40-49 and last but not the least, Veteran’s 50 and above. The Aboitiz Cup will begin on November 12, 2022, and will run for the next five weeks after. Official venue will be The Outlets at Lipa.
Despite having many age groups, tournament organizer Rely San Agustin also shared, “The success of the Aboitiz Football Cup has been its grassroots program where kids can fulfill their football dreams as they go up the football pyramid.”
The tournament’s ultimate goal is to reach out to the youth of CALABARZON and try to give them enough exposure by playing more games and gaining experience to pave the way to a brighter future for young football aspirants who want to achieve the dream of representing the country one day.
Former National Team Player James Younghusband will be the guest of honor on opening day, with San Agustin saying, “He will be there to inspire the kids and that’s something to look forward to.”
The LIMA estate will play host to this five-weekend event. Within the said vicinity, families interested to attend will have the pleasure of having lots to do aside from watching their loved ones play; some can pamper themselves through retail therapy because the pitch is surrounded by outlet shops, various restaurants, a pet playground, biking path, and even a go-kart area.
The Aboitiz Cup is not only for the local football fan to watch and enjoy, but it is also a family affair for all ages to enjoy and spend time with each other. # # #
