Defensive ace Lyka Cuenco sank her club’s0 league winning goal in stoppage time, ensuring Kaya-Iloilo F.C. a successful title defense of the Philippine Football Federation Women’s Football League (PFF WFL) with a 2-1 win versus Makati F.C. on the final match day of the 2025 season at the Mall of Asia Sky Football Pitch on Saturday.
The unmarked Cuenco took her chance off a deflection by reigning best goalkeeper Ayishatu Simpson of Camille Rodriguez’s shot, saving Kaya’s title bid at the 90+2 minute mark.
With the win, Kaya tied PFF Women’s Cup champion Stallion Laguna with 23 points, but with a superior +16 goal difference for the title.
The defending champs were on the brink of defeat when Makati’s 15-year-old sensation Yona de la Calzada goaled the equalizer from the left flank in the 81st minute off a rare throw-in play, with a lob that was beyond Inna Palacios’ reach.
Kaya was on the driver’s seat for the majority of the game as a goal by 2023 Most Valuable Player (MVP) Shelah Cadag off an interception of Kawinthida Kikuntod gave the early cushion at the eighth minute.
It was Kaya domination on possessions and shots but Simpson has seven saves to keep Makati in the game.
Prior to de la Calzada’s goal, Kikuntod had the only Makati shot on goal with an inswinging free kick from the right wing saved by Palacios.
Capital1 Solar Strikers are at third place with 19 points and while Makati is at fourth place with 16 points off an impressive five wins.
The University of Santo Tomas and University of the Philippines are in last place with three points each.
Kaya’s Julissa Cisneros, who scored the equalizer in stoppage time in the penultimate game versus Stallion, won the Golden Boot with 13 goals.
Women’s national team captain Hali Long, who will lead the Filipinas in the Asian Cup qualifiers in Cambodia starting June 29, was named League MVP.
