FIBA Asia’s number one men’s basketball squad Iran bounced back from a loss by trouncing the Philippine men’s basketball team, 74-65, Thursday in day six of the 2015 William Jones Cup in Taipei.

Hamad Haddadi returned on fire with his usual monster numbers of 22 points, 15 rebounds, and two blocks as he single handedly towed the Iranian squad in the second half with putbacks, dunks, and inside stabs.

While the game was closely for the most part of the game, the Iranians led by as much as eight in the third quarter with the presence of Haddadi.

When he was pulled out late in the third quarter and early in the fourth quarter, the Philippines came in close at 61-65 through the efforts of forwards Calvin Abueva and JC Intal.

Gilas Pilipinas had to make do without top scorer Terrence Romeo, who got sprained late in the third quarter after an awkward fall in a rebound play.

Seeming to have sat down the game for good, Romeo courageously returned at the three-minute mark of the fourth quarter but the spitfire was a shadow of his own self. He finished with eight points and only five attempts from the field—a far cry from his 18 point average.

Long-time national team center Asi Taulava, 42 years young, led the national team with 12 points and eight rebounds while playing tough defense against the 7’2″ Haddadi.

Intal and Jayson Castro William added ten points apiece.

The Philippines, tied at fourth place at 3-2, will next face New Zealand’s Wellington Saints on Friday.
