De La Salle University remains the only unbeaten team in the UAAP Season 76 women’s volleyball tournament after thrashing National University in straight sets, 25-8, 25-22, 25-19, on Wednesday at The Arena in San Juan City.

sidebar-uaap76In a total team effort led by Cyd Demecillo’s 13 points on three blocks and four service aces, the Lady Spikers took round one of this season’s potential Finals preview.

The sister act of Dindin Santiago and Jaja Santiago finished with 12 and 10 points respectively for the Lady Bulldogs.

“They played well. Unang-una, yung service received naging okay. Naging effective yung serve namin. Number one factor na ‘di naka-receive ang NU,” said long-time DLSU head coach Ramil De Jesus. “Yung first set kasi napakaimportante rin. Intimidated siguro ang NU.”

On the other hand, Far Eastern University claimed a three-setter over University of the Philippines, 25-19, 25-18, 25-17, to bounce back from a forgettable loss to Ateneo de Manila last Saturday.

Joy Palma led the scoring with 15 points, including 11 attacks and three blocks, while Bernadette Pons tallied 14 points on 12 spikes for the Lady Tamaraws.

FEU head coach Cesael “Shaq” Delos Santos emphasized the disparity in height, one that they could overcome in a different department.

“Sabi ko sa mga bata, hindi tayo ganun kalalaki, so kailangan mas mabibilis tayo sa kanila. Kung hahayaan lang natin na bumagal tayo, walang mangyayari sa team,” he said.
