The Philippines lost to Uzbekistan, 1-5, in the FIFA World Cup Qualifier game Tuesday, September 8, at the Philippine Sports Stadium in Bocaue, Bulacan.

Uzbekistan scored a goal early setting the pace for the rest of the match.

“It was not easy to put aside. It came as a shock,” Azkals coach Thomas Dooley admitted at the post-game press conference. “Whatever we planned to do, it was over after that minute.”

The Azkals’ Stephan Schrock made the lone goal for the Philippines, delighting the 7,500 fans that filled the stadium.

Uzbekistan’s head coach however said the Philippines still gave them a hard time. Speaking in his native language, he noted “It was a great game. The Philippines has a well organized team. The Showed confidence.”
