University of the East hoped for a reprieve in the suspensions meted to star players, then got what they wished for — at least for one player.
After requesting to have the respective two-game suspensions removed for center Charles Mammie and forward Lord Casajeros, the Red Warriors at least had Casajeros’ suspension reduced to just one game following an emergency meeting by the UAAP Technical Committee on Friday.
However, Mammie’s two game suspension will stick after the panel saw the suspension fit for the action.
Initially, both have been meted two-game suspensions for their “mercenarial” attacks on FEU guard Terrence Romeo in their double overtime loss to the Tamaraws on Sunday night.
The UE management, led by the school’s athletic director Rod Roque, no longer pushed to elevate their appeal to the UAAP board following the decision by the Technical Committee.
The players will serve their suspensions, starting with Saturday’s crucial game against National University.
