UE guard Roi Sumang scooped up the game-winning layup past the long arms of Karim Abdul with 11 seconds on the clock, as the Red Warriors (5-3) edge University of Santo Tomas (4-4), 68-67, in Thursday’s men’s basketball action at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Sumang led the way with 20 points, 12 of which came in the pivotal fourth quarter, with 10 assists. Ralf Olivares added 15 points.

Entering the fourth quarter down by 11, UE completely outscored their counterparts from Espana with a 21-9 surge where UST could not buy a basket in the first five minutes of the final frame.

Karim Abdul led the way for UST with 23 points and 20 rebounds in the loss.

Earlier, Ateneo de Manila University (4-4) swept their Battle of Katipunan duel with University of the Philippines (0-8) following a 67-59 victory in the day’s matinee contest.

Guard Kiefer Ravena is slowly regaining his old form, leading all Blue Eagles in a well-rounded effort of 14 points, 14 rebounds, five assists and three steals. Juami Tiongson and Chris Newsome each added 11 apiece.
