Letran College maintains their perfect run, while Emilio Aguinaldo College narrowly escapes with the win in Monday’s NCAA Season 89 seniors basketball action at The Arena in San Juan City.

The Knights (7-0) routed Intramuros neighbors Mapua Institute of Technology, 87-68, behind Mark Cruz’s 22 points, 10 rebounds, and five assists in the contest.

Sweet-shooting forward Jojo Belorio, who is playing just his fourth game of the tournament, slowly regained his old form with 12 points on 5-for-11 shooting from the field and six rebounds in the ballgame. Raymond Almazan dominated the shaded lane again with 13 points, 14 rebounds, and two blocks.

Leading the Cardinals (1-6), who now occupy the cellar a half-game behind season hosts Benilde, was team captain Kenneth Ighalo with 17 points and 10 rebounds.

In the second game, the Generals (2-5) defeated Lyceum of the Philippines, 83-76, to forge a tie in seventh place entering the league’s two-week hiatus.

Cedric Noube Happi, who suffered a fractured right wrist in the off-season, finished with his best performance of the season with 25 points and 20 rebounds. Jack Arquero added 12 points before injuring his right ankle late in the third period.

The short-handed Pirates, who played without key players Dexter Zamora and Andrei Mendoza after being meted suspensions for their roles in the post-game fracas against Benilde on Thursday, were led Tirso Lesmoras’ 28 points.
