Red Warriors clamp down off-target Falcons

Fighting just like the Red Warriors of old.
University of the East, led by a the leadership of Roi Sumang, delivered a crushing blow to Adamson University with a 66-58 victory in Monday’s 2013 Filoil Flying V Pre-Season Cup quarterfinals at The Arena in San Juan.
Fresh off a spell in the province following their last match against De La Salle University, Roi Sumang led the way wtih 18 points, six rebounds and five assists. Chris Javier, who struggled with his matchup against Ingrid Sewa, tallied 11 points.
“We are very tired and we don’t want to make that as our alibi. For the nine days following our game against La Salle, we went to Aklan for an (invitational tournament), then we crossed to Boracay for a team building,” said head coach Boysie Zamar.

“Once you put on a UE uniform, you must be ready to play,” added the Red Warriors’ mentor, slightly alluding to the recent pullout by Ateneo from the tournament.
Veteran forward Rodney Brondial led the Falcons with 19 points and nine rebounds, while Sewa finished 12 points, 12 rebounds, and 3 blocks in the loss.
Earlier, University of Santo Tomas booked their trip to the semifinals by downing a shorthanded Arellano University, 83-73.
Jeric Teng exploded for 23 points, while Karim Abdul hauled 18 points and 14 rebounds in the contest.
The Chiefs, who finished second in Group A, played without leading scorer James Forrester who partially tore his meniscus and will be out for a minimum of three weeks.
In the absence of Forrester, John Pinto carried the scoring cudgels with 13 points and four assists in a losing cause.
With their respective wins, UST and UE forges a duel for a spot in the seniors division finals on Independence Day.
