Bulldogs finish elims unbeaten; De La Salle, Letran triumph over ‘NC’ foes
A confident De La Salle University squad dealt a wasteful Emilio Aguinaldo College their 5th straight loss in as many games while National University unleashed a 19-point trashing against the University of the Philippines in Friday’s Filoil Flying V Pre-Season Premier Cup action at The Arena in San Juan.
Combining a balanced attack with stingy defense, De La Salle keeps their slate clean after five games with a 91-63 win over Emilio Aguinaldo College.
Jason Perkins fired 20 points along with 11 rebounds and a block to lead all scorers. Jeron Teng chipped in 11 points, along with Norbert Torres and Oda Tampus who both scored 10 for the Green and White squad.
On the other hand, a returning Noube Happi and Jan Jamon anchored the Generals’ offense with 14 points apiece.
The Green Archers continued to struggle at the free throw line, converting 19-of-28 attempts, a far cry from their almost perfect numbers from the start of the season. EAC, meanwhile, drained 20 out of 33 attempts.
Despite leading during the entire game, the Generals managed to cut the lead down to single digits in the second quarter thanks to their field goal efficiency. However, La Salle started pull away once more in the third canto by as much as 20 points due to EAC’s inability to maintain possession.
National University cruised past University of the Philippines, 71-52, in the day’s main game to maintain a perfect 8-0 card to end their elimination round assignments.
Bobby Ray Parks scored 15 points, 11 of which came from the free throw line, along with three assists and a steal. Alfred Aroga registered a double double with 14 points and 10 rebounds, while Jeoff Javillionar was perfect from beyond the arc to add in 12 points for the Bulldogs.
On the other hand, Raul Soyud and Joseph Marata scored in double digits for the Fighting Maroons with 14 and 12 points, respectively.
Letran improved to 4-3 following their 77-72 victory over the cellar-dwelling Lyceum in the opening salvo of the seniors’ tripleheader.
Rey Nambatac had 16 points with 8 rebounds. McJour Luib scored 11 along with Franz Dysam who drained 10 to complete the Knights’ trio of leading scorers.
Dexter Zamora once again dictated Lyceum’s offense with 17 points and 4 assists while Vergel Evangelista and Tirso Lesmoras had 13 and 10 points, respectively.
Lyceum extends their Filoil Pre-Season dry spell to five games.
