DLSU’s losing skid comes to an end against AdU
Despite losing team co-captain LA Revilla early in the game with a severe left ankle sprain, De La Salle University held back Adamson University in the end with a pulsating 56-52 win on Sunday at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
Both teams posted horrendous third quarter field goal numbers, with the Green Archers with a slightly better 5-for-14 output against the Falcons’ 2-for-15
clip.
In fact, Adamson scored their first four points from the foul line and did not score their first field goal until the 1:09 mark on Roider Cabrera’s top of the key jumper.
But in a see-saw battle within the first nine minutes of the fourth period, the Green Archers turned it on in the two-minute warning with four consecutive
points from Jeron Teng and Norbert Torres that gave them a three-point lead that the Falcons could not overcome due to the immense end game pressure.
Highly-touted rookie guard Jeron Teng topped all scorers with 15, together with10 rebounds. Norbert Torres played an all-around game with 12 points, 13
rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 blocks.
“We’ve been harping to the boys that we could compete in this league,” said first-year head coach Gee Abanilla, whose three-game losing streak finally came
to an end.
Ryan Monteclaro took on the scoring cudgels, scoring 12 points to lead all Falcons scorers in the loss.
Abdul, Ferrer lead charge in UST win over UE
Despite missing the services of the injured Jeric Teng, University of Santo Tomas secured an 85-69 rout of University of the East in the day’s main game.
Top performances by the quintet of Karim Abdul, Kevin Ferrer, Louie Vigil, and Aljon Mariano led the way for the Tigers, who now move up with a 4-1 win-loss
card.
Abdul led the pack with 20 points, 19 rebounds, and 2 blocks. Ferrer, who hit three 3-point shots in the third quarter, totalled for 16 points. Vigil
completed a breakout game with 13, while Daquioag had 12.
“Ang ganda ng contribution sila (Ed) Daquioag tsaka (Louie) Vigil. ‘Yan yung mga players na hindi ko nabibigyan ng pagkakataon, limited ‘yung oras nila, pero
nag-step up sila kasi wala si Jeric Teng. Kaya mas lalong lumalim ‘yung bench namin,” said head coach Pido Jarencio after the game.
JR Sumido led the charge for University of the East (0-5) with 20 points on 5-for-11 3-point shooting in a losing effort.
