Ateneo de Manila University bounces back from its loss to University of Santo Tomas with a victory against Katipunan rivals University of the Philippines, 56-43, Wednesday September 30 at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay.

The Fighting Maroons barely had a taste of the lead late in the first quarter at 9-8, the rest of the match was all Ateneo building up a lead which went as high as 19 at the half, 36-17.

Andres Desiderio lead UP with 12 points, 13 rebounds, and 1 assist. The Fighting Maroons outscored the Blue Eagles in the second half, 26-20, but Ateneo’s lead proved to be insurmountable with UP’s poor 19-of-78 shooting.

Kiefer Ravena and Von Pessumal lead the Blue Eagles with 11 points each.

Ateneo now holds a 4-2 win-loss card, while UP slips t0 2-4 for its fourth straight loss after impressive opening wins against UE and La Salle.

The Blue Eagles will face their rivals from Taft Avenue on Sunday, 2:00pm, while UP will try to catch its third win from the still-winless Adamson University, 11:00am on the same day at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay.
